It's a terrain expansion for Heroscape, but will non-Heroscape gamers be attracted by the trees?

Gen Con starts in a few days.
Wondering which TMP'ers here might be going.

If you do, have fun, be safe, and let us know how it is.

Nah. A pity: it's only a bit over two hours away. But if there are any historical miniatures games left--accounts vary--they're just lost in the RPGs and card games. Probably something there for the F&SF crowd.

I believe HMGS Mid West is planning a historical gaming presence. They and the Great Lakes chapter were at ORIGINS and the selection was bigger than it has been in years….

I've been going since 2015 and there have been historical miniatures games every year – this year there are 141 such events listed. I ran 28mm ACW games last year and the year before. Unfortunately this year I will have to work during the day (working remotely on the hotel wifi) on Thursday and Friday (my wife and our friends will get to game – lucky them). But I'll be gaming Thursday and Friday night, as well as all day Saturday. Won't be doing miniatures, but quite looking forward to games of "Shogun" (i.e. "Samurai Swords") and "Kingmaker" among others.

Hmm. Honest historicals, Eumelus? Once HMGS-(Formerly East) took up listing Nazi zombie games and "weird war" as historical WW2, I stopped paying attention to convention program counts.

The first ten listings:
WWI Aviation; Ancient Naval; Chicago Bootleggers; Flames of War; Lee Marches on Maryland 1862; British civil unrest 1970s (hypothetical); skirmish action at Stalingrad; Pirates vs Spanish; Quartermaster General (operational East Front); Team Yankee

That's literally the first ten listings of the 141 events. Seem pretty honest to me.

I have not gone to Gencon, since the year they were merged with Origins. I think that was 1985 but may have been the year after.

I went about 10 years ago but now the whole thing seems a little sus. We have badges with pronouns and a big advert about a company called Fitz Games and their game The Queer Agenda.

I used to go every year. It got too big for me, honestly. Too hard to get a room, too hard to register, too many people on site. It just got so big I no longer enjoyed it. Last two times I went because I was paid to go for my day job. I still didn't really enjoy it, even though I was there for free with an exhibitor badge. Honestly, I now enjoy much smaller, much more intimate regional shows.

I spend my time now at shows like Little Wars, Gary Con (which kept the spirit of the original alive), and day shows. Historicon is about as big as I get these days.

That all said, Gen Con has always had great historical events for those that search for them. Some are great spectacle. Ironically, I heard someone announce yesterday that they were going to Gen Con and described it as a 'huge show for wargamers.' I thought that was funny, as I doubt the majority would call it that these days.

Haven't gone since it left Milwaukee. Was pleased to see Adepticon is moving to Milwaukee. Looking forward to that.

I gotta go…just down the street about a mile from my house. :)

Thank you, Eumelius, kcabai. Not only historical, but three of them horse & musket! Not this year, but next year, I may have to put it on the schedule.
