Hi all,

Certainly a niche subject – hence me coming to you for help.

I'm fascinated by the history of Jamaica (I love the country), and am thinking about embarking on a new project that focuses on two of the major rebellions that took place there in the 19th century: the Baptist War (a slave uprising in 1831-32) and the Morant's Bay rebellion.

Ideally the miniatures would be African in appearance, and "armed civilian" types wearing western clothes, with a mixture of hand weapons and firearms.

These guys from Foundry look good, my only thought is that they're a bit too 18th century, and there aren't enough hand weapons.

I'm also at a bit of a loss as to what the militia of the time would have looked like.

Trent Miniatures has a number of packs of Black fighters for Haiti, etc. that would work for your project.

Excellent suggestion! Thank you.

Try the Ethiopian Regiment from Perry's AWI range.

The command pack is too AWI British, so probably not useful.
Good luck on picking an obscure period. Much luck.

The Trent figures would be exactly what you need.

I know nothing about 1830's Jamaica but was also going to suggest Trent Miniatures. Also Perry Miniatures have some Fingoes and Cape Town Militia in their Cape Frontier Wars range that might work for Planters and rebels if you cut down the feathers?
