Good evening all,
This is a long-shot, but here goes:
Does anyone remember a set of rules, published in either Wargames Illustrated or Miniature Wargames (probably around 17/18 years ago!!) designed for skirmish combat during the Seven Years War?
The rules were, I think, designed and written by a British member of the Seven Years War Association, and used standard playing cards for combat resolution (no dice involved).
If, by some miracle, someone remembers these rules I'd be very grateful for a copy! I've been struck by a wave of nostalgia and remember enjoying the game very much when I played it at Colours (the game was run by the author of the rules), way back when.

It sounds a little like Foundry's "Rules With No Name."

Come to think of it, I think I have a copy of the SYW version. It was by Bryan Ansell and my copy is from MWAN #84. It looks a LOT like "Rules With No Name" and was simply named "Horse and Musket Skirmish Rules."

It uses cards for activation, but not for combat.

The Horse and Musket Skirmish Rules by Bryan Ansell were in WI issues 111-113 according to the wargames magazine Index site.

I can't see another SYW set listed.

There was a set of rules called "Sabers" that was completely driven by the use of a deck of standard playing cards for both movement activation and combat results.Only 4-5 pages total. It was for cavalry skirmish, ostensibly in the 7 years wars period but worked well for nearly all horse and musket as well as pike and shot eras.
4-6 models per side with 1 player controlling 1 model with a slight role play campaign feel. Very fun.
I think they we written by Sam Mustafa and appeared in MWAN.
Don't know if this what you're thinking of but they were a fun play none the less.

I believe that you are thinking of my Croat Terror rules which are based on Tom Kelly's Woodland Wars rules for the French and Indian War. All of the action is card driven and hand to hand combat is done in the manner of the card game "War", where the high card wins the melee.

Drop me a line at altefritz1740@yahoo.com and I can send you the one page QRS
