Hi
so i had asked in the past about the La Bataille series and whether it could be translated to tabletop – with some mixed replies on how possible that is, – in looking at it more i saw that the titles all often have differing scales so it became too confusing for me to figure out some general army stats

but i wasnt familiar with the OSG library of napoleon strategy wargames and i wonder what they are like – their scale at least in one game i saw looked similar to some miniature scales, (ie 250-500 men per unit) so i wonder has anyone ever tried to convert this to tabletop just as an experiment even?

No to OSG, but we did this for SPI's "Wellington's Victory" -i.e. battle of Waterloo. We built the terrain in polystyrene tiles (hexagonal shapes to coincide with the contours of the map). We had to exclude the peripheral areas to be able to get the main areas of conflict onto a very large L-shaped table top. It worked very well – from memory we used 5mm figures on 1 to 40ish scale.

We were going to do Borodino, but friends moved away etc so the project was shelved.

The issue with OSG is that you first have to determine which series you're going to use, then get the most recent rules for that series as they are continually changing. The number of different series that they produce, games that have been redesigned, different scales, etc, can be baffling at times.

do the OSG games vary their scale between titles too? damn it gets all a bit confusing then -

See for Borodino (525 yards per hex, 400 to 800 men per strength point, 1 hour turns)

For the other OSG games see link You will need to dig into the various photos to get the info you require.

hmm – looking at several others they all seem to have that same scale which is good – but i wonder what the stacking limits on hexes are in the series – anyone know? maybe the rules are available somewhere onlien

@GeorgBuchner

Link to rules and other support files for OSG's 'The Library of Napoleonic Battles' ('TLNB'):

The stacking rules vary according to higher echelon unit integrity – see Section 3.0 on page 4 of the Series rules, above.

The unit representation level is similar to 'Age of Eagles' i.e infantry brigade, cavalry brigade/division, artillery battery.

I set up the Waterloo campaign maps (from Brussels in the north to the river Sambre in the south) to show some gaming buddies and we all realised you could use the OSG units markers with Age of Eagles rules to refight the entire campaign.

The actual TLNB rules are much more sophisticated than the original SPI 'Napoleon's Last Battles' board game rules and read very similarly to miniatures rules.

Kind regards
Allan

thanks Allan – i forgot i had gotten that pdf ages ago but i think i didnt follow it up as unlike the La Bataille games, there werent unit details around the web that i could form some unit and leader stats from

I see stacking could be up to 5 units in a hex – i don't know how that aspect can ever get resolved in trying to make a hex game into miniatures and have a reasonable game size space-wise
