If you don't know the reference, it is a line from the song Got the Time by Joe Jackson.

So … what is(/are) your favorite time setting(s) for scifi wargames?

Prehistoric
Alternate History/Modern/Future (include dates)
Steam Punk
Near Future
Dedades Ahead
Retro Future
Centuries Ahead
Millinea Ahead
Time Travelling in Scenario
Out of Time … Not related to the human/Earth timeline

Feel free to add other modifiers like Utpian, Dystopian, Alien Subjugation, etc.

My favorite is Centuries Ahead, Dystopian – POTA, with Millenia Ahead – Nacent Settlers a close second. And I do love a good Retro Future Space Opera scenario.

Near Future (post apoc) & Centuries ahead

Retro Future is always fun with a comic book vibe. Grab your ray gun, hop in your rocket ship and take a quick trip to see the Amazonian Queens of Venus!

But I also like the Hammer's Slammers style conflicts.

Centuries ahead – gene-modified Space Marines, techno aliens in battlesuits, sturdy Guardsmen, etc.

I guess what I've played the most is the 41st millennium, but that's ages ago. Runner up is a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, but that too is a long time ago.

Last I played was near future, and insofar that's the likely setting of my next sf game too, I guess it's my current favorite.

Centuries ahead: Traveller (about 30 centuries ahead).

Somewhere in the retro future, I think. (You have to remember it was "decades ahead" when I was young.) I can see the appeal of Centuries ahead--well, really of "a galaxy far, far away"--but lately I've been trying to integrate all my 28mm SF into a modified Barsoom which already owes as much to Leigh Brackett as to Edgar Rice Burroughs. It's a place where Imperial Storm Troopers might be picked off by Ratlings or Terran Hunters/Archeologists be surrounded by Drylander Martians.

It's a nice place to hide out from the Triplanetary Authority, but don't insult the Warlord, and try not to take Northwest Smith's favorite seat in the bar.
