The next stage of my Waterloo project will focus on the French cavalry charges and to that end I've been working on three double battalion squares from Chasse's Division. This has been a huge amount of work, and in all amounts to some 3,000 figures.

Chasse's Division had been deployed to the West of Wellington's line at Braine L'Alleud but were brought in to the rear of the centre to form six double battalion squares. The units were a mix of Dutch Line, Belgian Line, Militia and Chasseurs. I'm hugely indebted to my team of painters who have helped with these figures.

Since it was sunny, I decided to get out all my completed squares and do a quick stocktake as follows:

2nd Dutch/35th Chasseurs Complete
4th/6th Dutch Militia Complete
12th/13th Dutch Line Complete

Add these to the four battalions at Hougoumont, the 2nd Light KGL at la Haye Sainte and the battalion of Nassauers at Papelotte, 46 Allied battalions are complete. There are also 14 Prussian battalions complete, making 60 battalions, roughly 30,000 men. This figures does not include artillery, cavalry, staff, or of course, the French. Phew, this has taken some time!

So the Inniskillings 1/27th are described above as "Complete", because this is set at about 1800, as I recall. Couple of hours later their square (indeed most squares) would have looked much more "irregular", indeed, less geometric.

I recall an image of many of the squares set out on your lawn as a dry run of their positioning on the end product. That was quite remarkable in illustrating the planned scale of the ultimate model.

Wow

There's a lot going on here. Great work

Kind Regards
