What is your preferred figure scale/size for science-fiction miniature wargaming (land battles)? |

25mm I have three platoons of the old RalPartha Battletroops. Lots of conversions, head, and weapon swaps to make each faction different. |

25/28mm (my collection goes back to the Garrison not quite Star Wars figures of the late 1970s). |

6mm – but that is 'hard' sci-fi not Dan Dare or GW fantasy stuff. |

While I have some Gates of Antares which are 28mm, the bulk of my collection is 15mm. Must have close to 1k of figs and 80+ vehicles. Let's not talk about spacecraft….. |

10mm We sold the molds to a range of 10/12mm Aliens with lasers to a company in Florida. Centaurs, Minotaurs, canine, feline, and hawk men. All with SciFi weapons. |

I have 6mm, 15mm, 25mm, 28mm, 33mm, and even 54mm and I'm slowly sculpting a range of 20mm. Why? Well, for a guy like me, metal casting is really the only option. So, smaller and lighter seems like the way to go from a shipping and materials stand point. |

28mm is preferred. That's what 90% of my miniatures are. |

Once more, I do not fight skirmishes and serious battles in the same scale. In this case, it's OGRE vs 25/28mm. Note that this is where scale creep has hit especially hard, and my 25mm West End Games Imperial Storm Troopers and Rebel Alliance are now loomed over by every not-Necromundan street punk. |

Prefer 25 for most non-massed combat games. |
myxemail | 17 Jul 2024 6:42 p.m. PST |
28-32mm for humans in a skirmish, non mass army game. 6mm or 1/300 for mass army games |

25-28mm for skirmish, typically in the Traveller universe. I can field quite a few Imperial Marines, Zhodani troops, and Sword Worlders, and have some vehicles. In the lead mountain are more Imperials and more vehicles to be finished. 1:300-ish for company- to battalion-size actions. |

I prefer 15mm. Few figures. Makes the battlefield big in comparison to the soldiers. I like Heinlein type Starship troopers with capable weapons and plausible tactics. No tanks, swords or cloaks. martin

6-8 mm. My favourite game by far is Epic Armageddon, followed by Battletech Alpha Strike and Future War Commander. I love the big Sci-Fi battles. |

Darn it I forgot about my Orge stuff. Guess I have Sci Fi in 3 scales. |

May I suggest this be three TMP polls? First ask whether people do SF as skirmish, mass battle or both, Then ask them which scale they prefer for skirmish, and which scale for massed battle. Useful information might result. |

15mm for skirmish and smaller battles and 6mm for 'epic' scale battles |
miniMo | 26 Jul 2024 6:58 a.m. PST |
6mm — Ogre, BattleTech Alpha Strike, Giant Monster Rampage (with 4" Godzilla and other kaiju), Epic Armageddon. I have some 28mm skirmish — Space Hulk and others, but prefer the epic 6mm battles and have way more of those on hand. I would prefer 15mm for when I do skirmish, but I never did stock up on the old 15mm Traveller for Azhanti High Lightning, and not adding another scale now. |

15mm remains the one true-scale for EVERYTHING but I live among heathens so I've recently resorted to Wargames Atlantic 28mm plastics – which I'm actually developing a real liking for. Unfortunately my 25mm are going to have to go. |
