I ran this game -- generated by a NWF campaign that started a little over 3 years ago on the Lead Adventure Forum -- at my place back in early June, pitting two old friends against each other. The scenario pits a raiding force of Waziri Tribesmen against the defenders of the Yusufzai village of Kalu Khan.

Though I've played TSATF since it was first published way back in 1979, this was the first time I've ever played a game of Pathan Tribesmen versus Pathan Tribesmen.

It was a very entertaining game and the results came right down to the wire. It featured a few shocking turns of events, including: two rival units trying to charge into melee with each other -- and failing THREE TIMES; and the "Black Sheep" incident, which set the whole battle in motion but also came back into play at the very end, when a prize herd of sheep found itself in the wrong place at the wrong time -- caught between tribal cavalry racing to save the day and the nefarious raiders racing to abscond with said sheep.

If you'd like to read and see more, I invite you to click on the link below and visit my blog, where you'll get that and then some -- including all the many details for the scenario -- and should you do so, I thank you in advance for your time:

NOTE: This game was part I of the "Bachelor Wars" weekend of wargaming goodness enjoyed by myself, Nick Stern & Daryl Haselton in early June.

Beautiful terrain, and a near idea for a game. I've used TSATF for just about everything, including regulars vs. regulars. Never tribal vs. tribal.

Fantastic terrain and figures.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

Nick & Paul & Wassamatta U, I was in the same boat, having played colonials in various forms since the late Seventies but never having played a Pathan Tribes vs. Pathan Tribes game until I ran this one. I have to say, it struck me as being very "historical" as far as the lion's share of late c.19th warfare on the NWF -- not during a major revolt or Afghan War, just the far more common internecine tribal warfare and banditry.

I say this because neither side ended up being particularly devoted to the idea of actually getting to grips with their opponents. They took a lot of pot-shots at each other and did some maneuvering around to gain advantage of position or achieve an objective -- which in this case really meant grab some valuables and get away with them.

That being said, with just one or two "better" die rolls, it could easily have been a much bloodier game, complete with much close combat.

I know one thing for sure: after 40 years playing colonials & not running this sort of game, it's worth trying again -- at least IMHO!

What's that old Afghan joke…"Do you have an enemy ?" "Yes, I have a cousin" <lol>

Wolfshanza, more reality then an old joke, lol

@MG, it's very rare to see an Afghan vs Afghan, or a native vs native game. Very well done and exciting! Another beautiful game with amazing terrain and minis. I wonder how this will affect our ongoing Epic NWF Campaign???
What alliances have broken and what have been made. Who's the real beneficiary of this action, Mulehead Khan, Umra Khan, Ali Razah Kahn, Malik Mansur Khan, Sarban Khan, the Britishers, or ?????

@Wolfshanza: That is a great old joke/profound truth.

@SG, ALL MOST EXCELLENT QUESTIONS!!!!! I only wish I knew the answer.
