Has anyone found a hobby purpose for pool noodles? Can you do anything with them?

I stuffed a bunch inside my kayak to make it unsinkable.

Split longituninally. Cut into segments. Da ta da dat dat da daaaaaa … Quonset Huts (thin card on the ends).

Longer sections can make tunnels between scifi domes. (You can also do this with tp/towel tubes.)

Cut into thin slices … landing pads, missile hatches, etc.

Cut in angles on the bias, mounted on CD's crystal growths. These are better with hex or octagonal ones instead of round.

Pool Noodle: link

Crafters use them for projects, Dollar Tree even sells a "pool noodle knife" for slicing them up.

I use them to line sharp edges in my wargames hut as I used to have two gaming partners well in excess of 6 feet.

They make decent padding for the gunrack on my Mule atv.

I learned from a buddy their utility for storage of a terrain cloth. Simply roll the cloth around the noodle – it is light, eliminates creases, makes storage easier and provides useful cushioning if dropped.

A contos for my 25mm cataphracts. A bit long but cheap.

Not hobby related but anyway….

Wrap one around the rim of a bucket to make a camping toilet

Stick them inside soft boots to keep their shape (when not being worn)

Cut a 2cm length and use it to hold a macadamia nut in the hole for cracking with a hammer

pass them out to my grandchildren so they can get rowdy with each other, with little damage to each other.

mildbill13 Jul 2024 5:37 a.m. PST

Why is it you cant find the big ones and can only buy the small noodles?

Wackmole913 Jul 2024 7:40 a.m. PST

I uses them for the sides of my Dried river bed/Wadi terrain. I also uses it for canal sides and rivers.

Costco has super big ones…..$C30 or so…😳

I use them for many things around the house, many, many things, but never for miniatures. I guess this is an obvious opportunity to innovate.

Hmm. Does swordplay with the grandkids count? They each get about two feet of pool noodle with foam guards and plastic shields, and I get a pool noodle sword in each hand.

Maybe not for minis.

My dad had a big toe amputated and rubs his feet on a bed board. I slit a pool noodle and used it as a topper for the bedboard to soften his rubbing of it with his feet at night.
The nursing occupational visitor thought it was brilliant.

I've used them and pipe insulation for protecting painted figures during shipping.
