Trying to understand something on Missile Fire – MY COMMENTS IN ALL CAPS. Other is rule.

b) [O]ne of the two conditions below must occur to meet the eligibility criterion.

SO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING -

The first is that an eligible target has its centre inside the unit's shooting zone. (THIS IS SIMPLE ENOUGH)

The second condition is that every opposing (TARGET) file must have at least one shooter's base entirely, or partially, in front of it. (THIS IS THE ONE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. THIS WOULD IMPLY THE SHOOTER'S SHOOTING ZONE IS IRRELEVANT.)

THOUGHTS? I'M ASSUMING IT IS SOMETHING FAIRLY SIMPLE I AM MISSING ON #2.

Sorry, I don't have the rules, but could it be to do with being shot at from the flank? ?

Question what is the "it" in "front of it."

If "it" is the target, and it reads like it is, can't make sense. So I gues "it" is the firing unit

Is the second condition a way to get part of a unit shooting at part of a target unit? (I don't even know if you can shoot partial units in SL.) Under the first condition, a whole unit can shoot; under the second, individual files can shoot at enemy files directly in front of them – so it would work for flank shooting as advocate suggested, and also if the shooting and target units were offset.

It's just Greek to me. If #2 is what it sounds like then #1 seems irrelevant.

Seemingly, (1) in effect says that the target is eligible if they are to the shooter's front, while (2) says the target is eligible if the shooters are to the target's front. The latter makes no obvious sense to me, but presumably allows a target directly behind the shooters to be shot at.
