" The U.S. Army saysthe Charlie level "applies when an incident occurs or intelligence is received indicating some form of terrorist action or targeting against personnel or facilities is likely." In these cases 100% of the individuals moving into and out of a base or around bases are subject to 100% ID card checks.

The next level above Charlie is "Delta" which indicates an attack has happened in that area."

Just heard that on FOX. Hopefully it will amount to nothing. Or maybe we can kill some terrorists who try something …

The only good terrorist is a dead terrorist.

I was in Germany at the Seventh Corps HQ in the early 1980s. It was not unusual for some or all of the ‘concerns' to be placed on alert for periodic test alerts.
If it is a true threat alert both the 82 and 101 would be on a rapid deployment readiness status. Trains flat cars would be marshaling at every active unit's base. Transport ships and air transports would also be marshaling.

Alert means a lot of different things.

I was in the 101, '80-'83. And yes, us and our brother unit the 82d went on alert a number of times. It was SOP, each Bde would rotate with one being the Div Ready Bde. Along at least elements of one Bn locked in. With one Initial Readiness Company ready to roll very shortly after N+1. Then followed shortly after the rest of the Bde. And the other Bdes in the Div.

Similar in the ROK with the 2ID, '84-'85. We were a forward deployed Mech Bn in the Western Corridor along MSR 1. Alerts were called frequently. At both our main camp/post a little ways behind the DMZ. As well as when we were at the FOB and Guard Posts on the DMZ. We joked that probably in both locations; we'd be alerted first by incoming Nork FA falling all over the place. Then we knew we'd be in a hot war … again. It was our turn …

Lol, speaking of ROK, in the late 1970s I gave Purple Hearts to two cavalrymen who transferred into our CONUS unit. Wounded by mines and collapsing tunnels. Lol. My brother, the LTC, was in Korea flying a Cobra as a 2Lt. During the week of the cherry tree incident. He crash landed his help in a rice paddy. It was strange to me as a division safety officer that he ACM for it. Lol.

We were often reminded of the tree chopping incident. Our Bn Cdrs said basically, not on my watch. We prepped to play hardball. And we were sure the North was doing the same.
