I've dug up my 10mm ACW. I have just over 60 30mm square bases, with 6-8 figuresper stand, plus some Cavalry, guns etc.

What rules do you recommend, on the basis they are unlikely to be added to?

Regimental Fire and Fury

If you wanted to game big, you could use your 30mm x 30mm stands as "Volley & Bayonet" brigade-sized units (1000-3000 troops per stand), converting inches to centimeters for movement and firing ranges, etc. You'd be able to do all but the very largest of ACW battles, and easily fit them on the average table. (You would need a good number of generals, if you don't have them already.)

What Eumelus said. V+B is the perfect choice.

Volley and Bayonet is a great choice as mentioned above. Polemos may work. For most regimental rules you will need more if you are playing historical battles.

DBACW is another option.

I use a modified version of Neil Thomas's ACW rules from Introduction to Wargaming. I vary the unit sizes a bit from his suggestions based on various V&B scenarios, but typically I use 30 to 50 bases per side, even for big battles like Antietam or Chancellorsville. I just fiddle the unit and ground scales to fit.

60 bases per side is loads.

Altar of Freedom if you want to do large battles like Gettysburg or Antietam.

Stand=brigade, as in V&B or AoF is a good answer. But you are not limited to a single solution. Let a single infantry base represent 300 or 500 men and a host of smaller battles become playable.

I'm guessing Longstreet might be an option as well.

We have been playing Mr Lincoln's War of late. Also another vote for Regimental Fire and Fury.

I use 60mm x 30mm bases for Altar of Freedom, but you could easily use 30mm squares..There are quite a lot of scenarios which need fewer than 30 bases per side. We did Cedar Creek from the 1864 Camapign, last week, which has around 17 Confederate and 25 Federal bases.
