The Connections Wargaming Conference is an annual event held each summer to bring together practitioners from every segment of the wargaming community. Connections is open to all wargaming practitioners, and we welcome international participation.

The 2024 Connections Wargaming Conference will be hosted by the U.S. Army War College, at the Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, PA, June 25-27. Registration is now open on the Registration and Logistics page! Also on the same page, you can find information about the hotel room blocks that have been reserved for conference participants.

Connections US has been held every year since 1993, Connections UK was established in 2013 at Kings College London, Connections Australia was established in 2014 at the University of Melbourne, Connections Netherlands was established in 2014 by SAGANET, and Connections North (Canada) was established in 2016. These conferences are all independently managed and hosted, but they share a common mission to provide wargaming practitioners with a venue to share best practices and advance the field. Together, the Connections conferences around the world are building the wargaming community of practice and working to improve the use of wargaming as a tool for research, analysis, education, and policy.

I'm there, presenting on ASW wargaming concepts on Wednesday, running a demo of UCL's fleet command training game as well.

I'm doing mine on Thursday, just before lunch on Tactics and Lessons Learned in Ukraine. Will you be there or do it remotely?

Sorry I couldn't make it this year.

The Day Job needed me to be present.

It's an interesting event. Many of the people who wargame professionally for the military services and other U.S. government agencies are there. For those with security clearances, there is a classified briefing before the unclassified public event begins.

The Army Heritage and Educational Center ("AHEC") in Carlisle is also a great venue for an event and worth the visit.

Enjoy.

Here's a tour of the War College outdoor walk-around museum: YouTube link

I missed most of David Manley's presentation because I was at a meeting. What I did see I liked and I thought the game design, materials, and graphics were well done.

Here is a PDF of the presentation we (mostly Wolfgang, not me) did:

It's the same one we did at Origins a week ago except it was only 40 minutes instead of two hours.

Overall it was a very productive week for us to meet some of the top designers and professionals involved in commercial and military war games and simulations.

We had a good meeting with the Marine Corps War Fighting Lab. They want us to review a Company level training simulation that is currently in development.

There was also a representative from Marine Intel who wants to debrief Wolfgang on his experiences and lessons learned.

The Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth requested more information.

No miniature game companies were attending and all of the games/simulations were board games.

If anyone wants to discuss some of the presentation in more detail I'll start a new discussion. However, Bill would want it in Ultramodern Warfare which I seem to be banned for life for reasons unknown to me.
