…While some observers expected the deal on Power of Siberia 2 to be signed during Putin's visit to China, this did not happen. Since then, there have been no public announcements suggesting the contract has moved on…

Interesting analysis of Russia's gas exports.

Russia's conclusion of a military alliance with North Korea also indicates that there is some hidden conflict between Russia and China. North Korea has been a Chinese zone of influence for a long time… Now it has changed its senior partner.
Russia does not want to replace one of its senior partners (the United States) with another (China). It wishes to pursue a completely independent policy. China wants submission, including the lowest possible price for resources, taking advantage of the current situation (remember, China is no one's friend and always pursues only its own interests). This is where the disagreement comes from, in my opinion.
A new situation is emerging and an interesting window of opportunity is opening for the United States in the confrontation with China… But it will be difficult for Europe to get out of the rut of the Ukrainian crisis – the stakes were raised too high. World politics is becoming more dynamic and interesting.

We ARE living in what Confucius called "interesting times."

They say that the Chinese curse sounds like a wish for the enemy to live in interesting times…

Cuprum I don't usually agree with you but you're right here. Let me start by saying I oppose Russia's invasion of Ukraine. I support efforts to turn Russia back. However, Russia doesn't pose the same threat to the US that China does. If there is an opening here the US should exploit it. Negotiate a settlement that leads to Russia being neutral between the US and China. Support NK as a neutral Russian client state (but not accepting aggression against South Korea). China's strongest strategy is to divide our focus on too many directions before they hit Taiwan. These actions would stop that.

I don't buy Putin as Hitler. I do buy Xi as Hitler. He's supports ideas of racial superiority, militarism, claims to land and resources that go well beyond unreasonable, he's committing a genocide, arming the world's bad actors, and whipping up nationalistic fervor. Isolating him is in America's best interest. Break up this Axis before it can go too far.
