News today that Donald Sutherland has passed.

A sad day. I guess them negative waves finally got to him.

RIP. Oddball was great but I really liked him as Liam Devlin in The Eagle has Landed.

I know 88 isn't young, but dammit this still hits me. Just the other week I mentioned to my brother that we're at the point where those remaining from that generation of actors (Redford, Duvall, Hackman, Eastwood, etc.) are going to vanish like spring snow.

Three of my favorite movies, Kelly's Heroes, The Eagle has Landed and Dirty Dozen. I will miss him.

Adding 'The Eye of the Needle' (1981) to his many fine roles. I corresponded briefly with him in the late '80s, when he lent his support to an anti-nuclear group opposing Canada's purchase of nuclear-powered subs. I corresponded in favour of the boats; he replied against. Neither of us convinced the other. He was as eloquent in denouncing me as that smooth-talking rogue, Devlin!!

I think Oddball got a job as a college professor after the war (see Animal House)
