I happened to stop into my FLGS and the Age of Sigmar Battletomes are 90% off. It makes sense there is a new edition coming and the books are going to be useless.

It made me wonder how much stuff ends up in the garbage? I mean, there almost should be a post flea market dumpster for everyone's convenience.

Enhance your calm, Louis. I find that marking things "FREE TO GOOD HOME" late in the flea market session saves me the trip. Someone wants this stuff--if the price is low enough. And in most cases, a few holdouts will continue to play the "useless" rules. There are also book donation boxes. Some books may still wind up pulped, but at least they'll stay out of landfills.

But it's worth all of us remembering that decently sculpted figures and well-made terrain have lasting value, while rules tend to be more transitory.

Then again, there are rules collectors that just like reading them, and seeing how they change over time.

Good point, jgawne.

Anyway, very little of miniature warfare deserves a dumpster.

To add what Robert said, convention flea markets are a great way to pass these things on into appreciative hands. I've priced old rules at anywhere from 50 cents to a few dollars and there is always someone who is thrilled to get that bargain.

Really, the same can be said for a lot of hobby stuff. There are always folks looking for cheap buildings and terrain; the amount of old model railroad buildings and track I've unloaded at cons is staggering. Likewise, someone is always looking for plastic bits and bobs for kit-bashing and modding.

And yes, if all else fails, it can be free to a good home!

My buddies partner says, "if he croaks without organizing and distributing his collections, she's giving his worse enemy free reign. His motivation is to not let anything go to waste.

Mycroft, I rate my miniatures above girlfriends. But if they are given precedence over wives, ex wives are what you can expect.

Practically every company destroys/throws out what they can't sell or send back to the vendor. The main reason is they can write it off on their taxes (much more than if they donated it to charity.) Sad, but true…
