"My heart is broken by the terrible loss I have sustained in my old friends and companions and my poor soldiers. Believe me, nothing except a battle lost can be half so melancholy as a battle won."

I grew up thinking that's how Napoleonic warfare was, it's might be as close as it gets, War and Peace might be a bit better, but does any movie actually do Napoleonic warfare right?

@ 14Bore, does any movie do real war right; well by definition no one dies so in one way no. then it depends on your view of right. A movie will always show you more angles than any one individual would have had because no individual spent the whole of the battle fighting. In view of the terrain Waterloo probably did have a few big panoramic view moments that looked impressive. By comparison suppose you wanted to do a film of Wagram; the Saxons and 'German' Austrians fighting in white uniforms in the dark in the burning village of Aderklaa would look very different.
