Interested in materials to help me decide whether to collect and field armies for the 1580 – 1600 period for Spanish, Dutch, English or French.

Also generally interested in warfare in the period. Just finishing Winston Graham's book "The Spanish Armadas".

Oman Art of War in the 16th century is a good general reference.
There's an Osprey on the Armada era armies, and another on the Elizabethan wars in Ireland

Ian Heath's book from Foundry – The Armies of England, Scotland, the United Provinces, and the Spanish Netherlands 1487-1609 (Armies of the Sixteenth Century) – is superb, but unfortunately only available at ridiculous prices: link

Check Helion Books. Books on the late Tudor Army and the French Wars of Religion.
