On a scale of 1 (low) to 10 (excellent), how would you rate Norman Schwartzkopf as a military leader?

Just read a bit abuot when he was an advisor at Plei Trap in '65.

Good man then, solid thinking back then too.

8 or 9. An excellent general for a telegenic age.

Solid 9. Should have retired and run for office. His mistake was saying he was going to Bagdad and kick some as…butt. At that time the president publicly stated we were not going into Iraq. Gen Powell paid Norman a visit and promised he could retire despite this in digression. Powell had to leave him in charge as he was the only one that could keep the coalition in place- threats of it breaking up if he was removed. Watched it happen while working at HQ AFPBS in Yokota where we got all the news shows in real time via SATNET. (5th AF commander leaned upon my commander as he was getting real time info before G2 got it! ) In the end, Stormin Norman did retire upon return to the USA, with honors.
