I have received some messages asking about the cardboard buildings I use to play Frontline heroes and Fear of the Dark, so I have decided to update a post I made several years ago, adding more info and pics.

This post is about papercraft buildings and terrain for playing miniatures wargames: how to make them fold flat, with links to free buildings, tips, examples and as always lots of pictures.

I hope it helps as the better the gaming table looks the more inmersive is the experience of playing.

these are some example of the gaming tables I use while playing:

For.me to fold flat was a blast.

As a solo wargamer I have to store everything at home, and as I like to play in different settings to fold flat was the storage solution that I needed.

Yup same here I could not do without our fold flat. I even use it at 1/144 scale. Buildings are a lot smaller but you end up using more of them so storage is still a problem.

This is very clever!
I have used paper buildings, especially the Dropzone Commander ones, but never thought of how to fold them flat.
The buildings create great looking game boards as well.

BenMinis – If you look at the pictures in the full size pre-view you get how I did it:-

I find 300gsm card works, the folds dont break the card. With my 1/172 models you cam stand metal figures on the floor. Thinner card needs re-enfocement which is a pain.

Otherwise if starting from a more basic point. Cerial packets work. HOWEVER use their folds, even if you have to make a "hinge" by gluing the fold and flaps on the inside of the walla. Folding cerial packet basic card, cracks an looks bad. Spray acrylic primer thinly on the card before you start painting and its fine.

Welcome top the dark side.

This is the best glue I've found for working with paper. It sets about as fast as super glue and feels just as strong, but for paper. Check it here: link

I would suggest coloring the white edges of your buildings. Use the appropriate color to hide/erase the white edges.

I used ink markers until recently. Now I use acrylic paint pens, with a brush tip: water-based acrylic paint; many colors available; paint gives superior coverage compared to inks; very fast, super easy to use. Cheers!
