Do you have any suggestions for an easy-to-learn infantry-heavy set of modern/ultramodern rules in 1/144 scale? Could also be sci-fi if they were easy to adapt to modern combat? Primarily I don't want to have a lot of record keeping and granularity but just a fun set of rules we can throw a lot of infantry units and a few tanks on the table and have at it.

Best I have seen is "7 Days to the River Rhine" by Great Escape Games. Don't understand a rules section? Scan the QR code on your phone and watch an explanatory video. 1 to 1. Focused upon the 1983-ish time frame. (Able Archer?) This would make for some interesting scenarios.

Xenos Rampant.

Fast, fun and easy to adapt back from SciFi to ultra modern. The vehicle rules are a tad weak, but it is an infantry focused game. From the popular "Lion Rampant" series. Super easy to tweak to your liking.

Flames of War / Team Yankee

Honestly, just swap out the models for ultra modern and have at it. The best tank is an M1 the second best is a T64 and so on.

There is us, Maneouver Group, but you requirement is not very clear about what it is you want. Rumohr had it the great Phil barker wrote a set that had very few vehicle types so would be very fast.

Vehicles are always going to be a bit detailed, they have lots of weapon systems, several machine guns in some cases, smoke dischargers/generators, sights, sometimes 2 main guns (BMP-3). In the end how abstract do you want it? If a T72 and a Challenger 2 act the same, no fun for me but we are all different.

Our QR sheet is free so comparing QR sheets might help you.
