… The World?

"The internet has become an integral part of modern life, revolutionizing communication, commerce, and information sharing. However, the idea of a global internet shutdown is a daunting prospect that raises numerous questions and concerns. In this article, we explore the hypothetical scenario of a worldwide internet shutdown, analyzing the potential consequences across various aspects of society, economy, and daily life. While this scenario is highly unlikely, examining its implications can shed light on the immense reliance we have on the internet and the interconnected nature of our digital world…"

Strip clubs and adult book stores would see an incredible increase in customers.

Our children wouldn't know what to do without their smart phones.

Watching the younger generation look at printed paper maps should be fun after a major run to the used book stores to find a "rare" copy.

I have enough projects to keep me occupied for forever. However, not being able to order modeling stuff online would be a real bummer…

I am also with Col Dunford

A large numbers of companies would go out of business, and I am not talking OnlyFans. Thousands of companies (probably 10s of thousands) no longer have their computers in house, they are in data centers, and they remote access the computers. If the Internet is down, they cannot access their servers, and fold. Maybe not world destroying but it would make the US depression in the 1920's look like a slight market downturn.

I'm with Mr Shaw, above – I would get a lot more painted. And play a lot more.

In fact, this sounds a lot like my retirement plans!

I suspect the inability of food stores to reorder would quickly be of more interest than the fate of the on-line porn industry. Seeing how lockdown impacted people's shopping I don't think we'd last long either.

No internet > no logistics. No logistics > no food. No food > everybody dies…

…except the few remaining hunter/gatherers in places like the Amazon and Borneo.

Most bank security and account access these days is fully dependent on the internet. Try taking money our of your bank, or ATM with the internet gone- it won't happen.

The internet? How about the electric grid. Read Ted Koppel's book "Lights Out." It's about how vulnerable the grid is to cyberattack, and how unprepared utility companies are to repair the massive damage that could result. It's not a matter of days or weeks, but many months. I have never read a more terrifying book in my life, fact or fiction.

I'd open up a strip club with multiple stages and private VIP rooms and charge exorbitant prices for booze. Help me bring down the internet and I'll cut you in for a % of the profits.

I'm with Extrabio1947. Another fiction good read, until it drifts into wargamer fantasy, is "One Second After."

" It's about how vulnerable the grid is to cyberattack, and how unprepared utility companies are to repair the massive damage that could result."

A cyberattack? A hundred squirrels frying themselves at strategic places on the grid at the same time would have the same effect (and, there are millions of squirrels out there, so it should scare everyone that it could happen… ;-)
