To be honest I don't think we are the target audience for this game.

Well, I'm getting into it big-time. Having played WHFB since 4th, this is right up my alley. I plan on doing all the armies that I can, for this game.

Damon.

I thought they were trying to get back the older gamers.

But not that old wink

Personally I'm not into GW products. There are other (and in my opinion, better) alternatives available. I play 40k style battles and WHFB style battles. Just not using those rules….

Well the figures are there (just not in stores!?) if any take your fancy.

I think it needs a few years to settle.

For a start TK and Brits are not the most typical fantasy armies.

Luckily orcs and goblins and dwarves are right behind. So that may help them out.

Also the TK really needed a new/modified skeleton sprue, with Egyptian bits and right handed bowmen.

Instead you get a dragon in the box you may not even want, worth a lot (which may solve that problem on eBay).

Who isn't and who is?

The majority of TMP is historical, and various "how old are you" polls over the years have shown we lean towards the older end of the spectrum.

I think GW are probably aiming most at the 10-40 Age Group, and skewing to the younger end of that with maybe 25 years old being their ideal purchaser – have a job, have cash, maybe not in a serious relationship yet and so still have plenty of time to paint to the "GW Standard".

The game "refresh" cycle suggests that they are looking to pick up players who will stick around for maybe 10 years. Plenty of people stay around longer, but I'm guessing that more than 50% of people who play at age 15 no longer play at age 25.

It's also an opportunity for the person with the 12-16 year old kid to say, "Hey, this is what I started out on when I was your age. Do you want to build an army?"

I'm 56 and a was a teenager when Warhammer 1st Edition came out. I think you underestimate the age range for Warhammer fans.

I was a fairly big fan of Old World and was interested in these releases but so far haven't bought anything. I had intended to flesh out my Bretonians, but the releases thus far have not been the figures I really wanted- to many pegasi and fantastic figs and not enough of the run of the mill figures I had hoped to pick up.

Unfortunately for them I still have my Imperial, Wood Elf, and Orc armies, so there's not a lot I need to pick up.

I still play GW games – occasionally – that I bought 40 years ago. I just don't believe that I'm the average GW customer.

The age range is much wider, of course, but the new customer base can't be the over 60s. No part of wargaming – any game any period -has the over 60s as it's key new customer base.

Thanks for explaining.

It does seem a good time for TOW, with people introducing their kids to it.

A lot of people may have kids banging on about AOS and are keen to show then something better, but still new, from GW.

I feel that's the low end age target. But I think 40-60 may be the main one. With nostalgia being a great seller in today's climate (when it's not screwed up, like many films).

GW trying to milk our last cents while they can and perhaps establishing a "new" system, eg to replace LOTR, for little money/effort.

PS

Someone probably realised they have a warehouse full of figure moulds that people are still paying an arm and a leg for on eBay. Einstein. Moulds+Buyers=Money2.

Oh late for this topic.
Love or hate modern GW, Old world is a step in the right direction… they have the molds for all the old stuff, so use them!
I have bought 2 tomb kings and 2 bret starters and more than a dozen unit boxes for both. No plan to use the rules though. Im sticking with a modified 7th edition with 6th edition army lists.
Beats paying ebay scalpers for older figures. Cant wait till they re-release those old dwarf figures. And the Beer Cart!
