But do you know why they were called the filthy thirteen? It had to do with them being physically dirty, and not that they were bad guys or whatever.

They were the demolitions squad, and so in the field set off explosives to help train the rest of the unit, As such, when the companies rotated in and out of the field, they had to stay in the field, which meant they could not take showers or get a break like everyone else. In protest of them not being given a break, they just stopped bathing, and got rather dirty. And the thus the nckname, which stuck.
