There was an ad on TMP's homepage, but the Wargame Vault's page is a bit bare : no preview, no critics… link Thinking of building the ships of the battlecruiser action at Jutland. What would be the strong and less strong points of the rules set to game it? Thanks in advance |

The description on Wargame Vault doesn't even specify whether it's a miniatures game or not. Just says 'tabletop game'. |

Use "Fleet Action Imminent." The BC encounter would work well. |

Foxbat I have been running games of WWI Dreadnought battleships at Historicon for a couple years now (and will again this year) using "Fighting Battleships!". Inspired by the old Avalon Hill Jutland game. it can be played with simply counters, or miniatures. We use 1:6000 scale ships, but can be scaled to any size models. Designed for Fleet size battles and you can actually fight all of Jutland if you desire (which we have done). If you are interested, send me a PM and I will email you a completed rules set, including all markers and game counters you need to play the game or adapt to miniatures. Kim |

Not to pick on Dread Not, but I don't understand people who put out miniature rules on Wargame Vault and give ZERO information on the rules. Or they have a preview of the first 4 pages of the rules which give you ZERO information on how the game plays. In this case, the rules are $10. USD Not a ton of money if the rules are playable, well researched, and enjoyable. But I wouldn't even pay even $1 USD to take a chance. To continue my rant, when you put rules up on Wargame Vault, please answer questions. Have a Facebook page. Have a forum. Rant over. Enjoy the rest of your day. |

I too would like to hear a bit more about Dread Not (great name). Always on the lookout for that perfect set of rules that most pleasingly resolves scale (battle lines 6 miles long, gunnery at 10 miles), appropriate level of decision-making (where and when to deploy), fog literal and figurative, period feel but not over-complicated, fun, etc. Not much to ask, I know. (For me Paul Hague's version remains the winning compromise, but other rules also work!) |

Thanks for your replies. Actually, a preview is now available. Not overly thrilled. Kim, you have a pm in your inbox! |

Hard to tell, but I suspect not for me either: having acceleration rates suggests this is at the wrong level for my particular preferences. |

If you are looking for a rules set that will handle large actions, here is Fighting Battleships!
I have run this game at Historicon and Fall In and it has twice won awards, including the prestigious Legion of Honor. Best of all, I am NOT selling these, but if you email me, I will send you everything you see (other than than the 1:6000 model ships) including ship counters for FREE. email me at kimryoung@yahoo.com with Fighting Battleships as the subject.
