Hi Hivemind!

I have been wondering about the Arab-Israeli wars (and others), and how they have so often been relatable or indeed caused by the 2 great superpowers fighting proxy wars.

My main query would be if the Arab neighbours of the fledgling state of Israel had just accepted their new neighbour, rather than just trying to destroy it.
How would things have developed? I think maybe Israel would have not become such a military power, but what do you think?

PS: No Current politics please!

Interesting question and I think it's: 1) a tough hypothetical to answer and 2) difficult to keep answers from creeping into current events.

That being said, I think you would have a much smaller Israel. In '48, '56 and '67, the Israelis ended up with more land than they started with.

I'm not sure that the Israeli state gets away with unprovoked land grabs if they don't have the justification provided by the Arab war invasions (or plans to invade).

Maybe trade agreements would have been entered into. Turning Israel into more of a manufacturing hub and the surrounding states providing labor, resources and a market. Kind of a USA / Mexico relationship without the cartels.

+1 Stryderg. Maybe like Dubai as a banking hub, and R&D hub with low cost manufacturing happening in the labor rich neighbors and high precision manufacturing happening in Israel.

Peace, freedom, and cooperation are always better than conflict and oppression.
