question on the lst2 (landing ship tank2)
what was the biggest tank this ship could carry, all the images are d-day shermans
wondering could it have carried m47 or m48 tanks, considering bow door dimensions and especially bow door ramp max weight
have a model of it so wanting to use it for a postwar scenario

just noticed the title has landing craft tank 2 in title instead of landing ship tank 2, can't change that part, sorry for possible confusion

Allied Landing Craft of World War II, Naval Institute Press;

No apparent max weight of vehicle on deck. Nothing stated on ramp. Ramp width and height (bow opening) 14 feet for both. I would assume if it was not up to it then they owner/operator would reinforce or replace with stronger ramps so assume that.

LST Mk 2 (LST 2 when built by US yards):

The LST could carry a 2,100 short tons (1,900 t) load of tanks and vehicles. The larger dimensions also permitted the designers to increase the width of the bow door opening and ramp from 12 to 14 feet (3.7 to 4.3 m) in order for it to be able to accommodate most Allied vehicles.

What you really want is the number of tanks the LST could hold when combat loaded. Combat load is designed for unloading fast and in the order needed on the battlefield. The other load is designed to maximize carrying capacity. I found one article that said an LST could carry 20 Shermans. Couldn't find anything about M47, but there would be a manual for how to load them, there was a manual for everything.

No not number of tanks .its how much weight the bow ramp can take?
The sherman is around 30 ish tons .a m48 is some where around 50 ish tons nearly double .so question is could the bow ramp take weight of m47 or m48 tank

I don't see that as a problem, bow ramps were removable and I think it would be a small thing to reinforce or replace them if they didn't take the weight of a heavier tank. WW2-era LST's were in use through Vietnam, so they must have worked something out.

thanks guys
couldn't find anything on google
so tried m48 unloading lst2
what came up wiki m48 unloading from lsm-1
so guessing if it works for lsm-1 should also work lst-2
