A friend of my son who is a custom wood worker is making me a board and pieces. I want to give this a try. Are there any sites to play against other people or the computer? All I have been able to find is sites with the rules or games for sale. I am in central Ohio.

There is a list of online play sites at link

There's also link so the list is not comprehensive.

Try a websearch with hnefetafl and "ai" or "computer opponent", that should narrow down your results.

Also, with a quick search, I saw a lot of examples where the pieces were put on the spaces. With my 40+ years of playing, reading, and researching, it is supposed to be played on the intersections. So an 8x8 chess/checkers board is really a standard 9x9 hnefetafl board. 11x11 is my fave, though the occasional Alea Evangelii on an 18x18 (yes, they used the spaces by that time) is good, right fun.

That point, however, is not really for discussion with someone who is making you a gift. Cherish awesome people like that.

Google Play store has one by Philippe Schober. I couldn't wrap my head around the rules, but you can play against your phone.

And I just found these: link

Thanks for all the help. I will be checking out all of those sites to get going. I will let you know how it turns out.
The guy who is making the board and pieces was really excited about making it. He is going to make a second one to display with some of his other work. After looking at some of the sites he said that there are some unique resins he is going to try on the board, and some computer programs that he saw to make the game pieces. Pictures will be coming when it is done.

One of the benefits of the game is you only need three distinguishable stones (function) and some lines in the dirt, but can make each unique if you want. We often play with 28mm Viking minis.

Looking forward to seeing the set!
