…Software companies including Govini and Palantir are behind the production and modernization of today's most high-tech weapon systems. Both companies were at the second annual AI Expo for National Competitiveness in Washington to showcase their work to the nation's top military brass. Fox News saw first-hand this cutting-edge technology and had an exclusive interview with Palantir's CEO and co-founder Alex Karp, whose software is being used in Ukraine and the Middle East…

I sure wouldn't depend on AI in a war. I don't think it would be much smarter than an AI in a vidoe game (which players quickly learn to defeat…)

Ai in video games is usually hard code if something then do x. It's a decision tree rather than ai.
Ours tries to analyse the situation to decide what to do in a more sophisticated way. I say ours, it's Ezra Sidran invented it
Ai that learns and adapts is tricky stuff to write. I'm not sure any game has that.

This is the future of warfare. If we are not on top, our enemies will be. If one really gets into this, it is scary. Nanotechnology, robotics and combining both, I believe are the future. We have seen the difference drones by themselves have made already, and we are in just the early stages, I.e. the first planes in combat, the first primitive tanks.

How will AI verify information to be truthful.

If your AI can be deceived the enemy will achieve.

Decieption can come in many forms and not only from your foe.

You do know at some time AI will be self aware. Humans will all look the same to them.

I am off to Montana to look for a good hiding place.

What could possibly go wrong?

See also: Megatraveller, Virus.

It was so powerful that it didn't just destroy the game setting, it destroyed the game and the manufacturer!

AI is very useful and with develop and evolve as time goes on. To even be more effective. However, were still have to know how to do things without it. E.g. GPS is not really AI but we still have to know how to read a map and use a compass …

AI without a power source can't do much of anything AFAIK …

Nine pound round18 May 2024 1:56 p.m. PST

True, but look how much trouble Dave Bowman had with the whole "kill switch" thing.

Zephyr118 May 2024 2:56 p.m. PST

Well, we can only hope that the AI programmers put 'cheat codes' into their code, in case something goes wrong… ;-)

Ai that'd be self aware is a long way off.
Self aware ai has to be able to adapt.
Adapting likely means it could disable anything like a kill switch.

Adapting likely means it could disable anything like a kill switch.
But maybe not with a Javelin or RPG … 😁😎

Profits and military necessity, will override all. If not here, then China, Russia, North Korea, Iran ….. actually everywhere. As it has been in the past, as it will be in the future. The pessimist in me says, we are still Chimps playing with a lighter and an open keg of gunpowder. Sooner or later, one of the chimps will flip the wheel.

Doubt me? I give you the Wuhan lab, gain of function research and Covid. God knows what new surprises they have in store for all of us.

I agree with Nine pound round. (Did Virus appear in The New Era or MegaTraveller? whatever, I never got into either setting.)
