You were asked – TMP link Devout warrior king or puritanical bigot? Or something in between?Having read Seward, who is very much in the religious bigot camp, and then some hagiographical texts and all in between, where do you think he lies? Myself, I like to sit on comfortable fences, I think a little of both. I think any king of the period was by nature a bigot, believing themselves to be chosen and anointed by God. No doubts in my mind as to his ability as a warrior, but was he a military genius or just a heat warrior king able to inspire his troops. I think his short life probably lent itself to concentrating on his military exploits. He didn't live to an old age to mellow, I guess. 21% said "devout warrior king" 13% said "all of these" 8% said "charismatic king" |
