It's that time of year, again. For the Society of Daisy mini-convention known as OttoCon, named after the late Otto Schmidt.

The 2024 edition of this show will be held Friday, June 14th and Saturday, June 15th, as the Comfort Suites at 10 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA 17013

We generally start at 0900, coffee service depending.

The Theme this year (which no one ever follows) is:

Space Games!

OttoCon is like a big game weekend at a club, designed for players to enjoy just playing games.

We have a Flea Market, but no Vendors (because, historically, Vendors always wanted to play, but were busy….vending)

While we love miniatures games, other games are also welcome. Boardgames, card games, etc. are all welcome.

Divine Right, a Daisy boardgame staple at OttoCon, will be there.

For miniatures, we have periods as varied as WW2 with What A Tanker and King Philip's War with Songs of Drums and Tomahawks.

And, finally, FINALLY, Military Science Theatre 2000 will make its comeback with a dog of a movie so awful, that The Selection Committee has collectively filed for compensation from the VA as a result.

If you would like more information, want to host a game, think you might want to attend, are looking for a good place to eat in Carlisle on a Friday night (Cafe Bruges…) or care to donate your hard earned Spanish Milled Dollars for no good reason whatsoever (okay, Tracy, I tried…) then please contact our hard working, indefatigable, and some might even say….debonair Grand Pooh-Bah, Tracy Johnson, at saxenviolets@gmail.com

Hope to see some of you there.

If you have one available, you should post a link. Searching "Ottocon" pulls up a board game event in New York.

Yeah…..so we've found out.

Not sure how we're going to work that one out.

I shouldn't sweat it now. Not with 5 days remaining.

I came to one some years back and it kinda seemed like mostly an ADLG tourney. I was intrigued by the Junta game from I think t was last year.

Walt isn't running the ALDG tourney this year. (He didn't run it last year, either…)

The games are kind of spread out over time and space.

Junta was two years ago, I think. That's always a fun time.

We've got some ideas that we are working on for next year and going forward with OttoCon.

Like…using technology and all…

I'd be curious to know what your attendance ended up being.

epturner16 Jun 2024 1:40 p.m. PST

Attendance was…low.

Some of the usual Daisy folks had last minute work conflicts.

Tracy is tallying up the receipts.

We had some drive by interest by a group of retired MPs who were holding their annual reunion. A couple of folks from Shippensburg stopped by.

But it wasn't much.

Long story short, we really needed to do a better job of getting the word out…

I've always been curious about Ottocon. It's at that thready edge where distance and level of interest combine to flirt with infeasibility.

I came the 90 minutes up once to the old location in Myerstown out of curiosity, but the show was so sleepy I decided not to stay over and went back home straight away.

I posted an inquiry back in April, but nothing came of it.

Maybe next year…

Well, shoot me an email at epturner29 AT aol DOT com and we can talk about it.

I'm not aware of anyone who inquired and Tracy didn't respond to them, so I'd be more than happy to help. And take suggestions for how we can do better to draw folks to the show.

Eric
