Radio 4 has an ongoing series looking at dictators. In amongst the usual suspects are 6 episodes on Napoleon, 4 on Julius Caesar, and the latest batch of 4 on Cromwell. Cromwell programmes feature some noted academics and writers. A fair balanced treatment which is mostly accurate (just ignore the description of regiments of foot at Edgehill, and the description of Boye). Those of us of a certain vintage will be pleased to hear that the abduction by monkey story appears (and popularised by the Ladybird book). Cromwell available until April 2025, some of the older episodes (Napoleon) available until August 2024. Apologies, not sure if they are georestricted. Nor can I vouch for the Napoleon or Caesar episodes ( hopefully not completely rubbish). |
