I am looking for medals for my games either to buy or 3D print.

You used to be able to find them at military surplus stores. Of course, there is always online

First I would say, what are the medals used for?
Are they rewards for players who are victorious, etc?
Are they mementos of special games, etc.

I'm iffy on using WW2 medals as I would have problems with awarding a US WW2 Issued Italian Campaign medal to a WW2 FoW player who won an Anzio Tournament.

Do you mean real service medals, or plastic medals that can be for anything?

First, I'd point out that the only ACW medal was the Medal of Honor.

Then, I'd suggest you make things up. I used to proudly wear the Order of the Dead Duck--a black duck silhouette on a red and white bullseye target. I was awarded it when my personal command casting failed three saving throws at Leipzig I in 1968.

Plausible but not real if you can think them up.

For 3D print files, just search for medals on Thingiverse, Printables or Cults3D.

You could design your own unique medals using Tinkercad, based on designs that are already there or from scratch.

Robert;
Actually, there were more than the MoH awarded during the Civil War. There were medals awarded by States and by generals for various actions and such. Not to mention the odd Congressional gold medal.

The MoH was the only Federal award, though, that applied to all.

There is a guy out there, I want to say it's Blue Falcon Awards or Productions or something, who does a whole series of "awards", including faux medals, especially for things like Atropia.

I'm sure you could reach out to him for ideas, maybe even a production run. Google "Atropia Campaign Medal" and that should do the trick.

Robert,
I love the dead duck medal! I am inspired!
On a simialr note, I once was given the "group Tight" award (a special solution in a spray bottle) for our team having the lowest score on a firearms competition.
Th elabel said if you sprayed it on your target, you would have a "tighter group."
