I have to admit I hate the appearance of the paper/plastic flat models. I saw a table full of it and it took me a while to figure out what they were even trying to represent. I get the low cost to get in. I even get it if you are trying to work out the kinks of a system. I personally will never play a game with flats – or unpainted minis. If it is your thing, more power to you. Rant mode off. |

I think in the 50's, 60's and early 70's these would have been great. Most people would agree 3D is better than 2D. Yet with no painting and greatly reduced pricing I could see how the younger players would use them. |

I played a game with paper soldiers a number of years ago, and I didn't have any problem determining what they were supposed to represent. I have been tempted by the WoFun figures a few times, but I've got too much going on. I am sure that the flat and paper gamers won't notice your absence. |

I try very hard to avoid raining on other people's parades. Plenty of things I won't get into because I don't like them – but then there's plenty of folk who would not touch my preferences. So better just not to rant in public about it. |

I purchased their Punic Wars, ECW and War of the Roses sets. I would much prefer playing with real miniatures, but without the WoFun minis, I never could play those time periods… Dave |

Jlundberg, why stop there? No rant about other people's taste in miniatures is complete without taking a swipe at smaller scales--"you might as well play with cardboard counters" and I personally feel the icing on the cake is complaining that paint won't stick to soft plastics. When you do this sort of thing, do a good thorough job. No half measures. For what it's worth, I have multiple books of paper soldiers and matching paper terrain tucked away at a relative's house in event of fire or such. At my age, I'd never live to paint up full 28mm armies. Give me money and a decent print shop, and those paper armies could take the field in a week. |

Sorry for those offended by my opinion. I do admit to being grumpy about something else as well. I get irritated by the continuous ads for something I am not interested in. Since I am paying for TMP I would like to be able to opt out. I don't resent other people enjoying the product. |

No one is offended by your opinion. What is offensive is the crass manner in which you chose to trumpet it to everyone. |

The aim is to have fun, it doesn't matter how. |

Honestly, I rather fancy them. I cannot think of a faster way to get armies onto the field. Storage is easy. 3D printing is sweet…when it works. When the filament doesn't jam. Or the motor fail. Or the resin tub develops a spontaneous leak. Or you get cancer from the resin fumes. And then you still need to paint them all and you still need to make sure you care and feed your printer. More money for paints. More money for printer fixes. More money, money, money. Dunno. The whole quick army out of a box that I do not have to paint seems like a huge advantage. I haven't bought any, but I am seriously considering it. What DOES put me off are the scale options. I really wish they were available in 10-15mm. Yet, more importantly, the sheer numbers you can field bring the "cast of thousands" look to the field. I have seen that same effect only a few times in my 30 years of gaming accomplished only by a very few able to afford the cost/time/resources to actually make it happen. With these flats, I can the same in a day. |
