Am just finishing the second read of Swords Around a Throne by John Elting. As a history of Napoleon's Grande Arme'e, itself, not a history of battles and campaigns, it could be dry and boring. Not so. It is hard to put down. Elting has a great sense of humor and appreciates the romanticism of the period. Full of great anecdotes. I confess to skimming two chapters, logistics and food. Tom |
