There were apt of POWs sent to Fort McClellan in Alabama. In the 1970s they uncovered several large murals that covered the wall of the Officers Club and HQ.

Most of the Afrika Korps wound up in Oklahoma on the grounds that the climate was closer to their point of capture--Tunisia!

Some of them are buried in the cemetery right behind the US National Cemetery at Ft. Bliss Texas.
