Iran has launched over 100 drones at Israel; IDF working to intercept them en route; Unconfirmed reports say cruise missiles also fired

Martyn K13 Apr 2024 3:47 p.m. PST

It will be really interesting to see which countries the drones and missiles flew over – Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon?
It will also be interesting to see what the political consequences are of overflight, as I doubt anyone other than Syria would give permission.

I can't see them attempting to overfly Turkey as there is the whole consequence of dealing with NATO.

Martyn K13 Apr 2024 3:51 p.m. PST

I also just saw the news that Iran has threatened to retaliate against any country that opens up its airspace for Israel to attack Iran. The whole airspace issue is an intriguing part of this conflict from both sides point of view.

Well Iran says: "That's it". So for them a face saving effort. Let's see if Israel agrees.

Once again we witness the power of Biden's saying "Don't" to Iran. That sure stopped them. Just like it stopped the Houthis' from firing missiles at ships. I too hope Israel will destroy Iran's nuke program. However, with that said, I think it was a foolish move to attack the consulate in Syria. Israel already has pissed off many nations and peoples over Gaza and they have their hands full fighting Hamas right now. This is not going to make Israel any more popular.

Inch High Guy13 Apr 2024 6:56 p.m. PST

There are four major oil refineries in Iran, and an oil transfer facility on Kharg Island to ship it out. Five targets. Hit those five targets and the Iranian economy collapses. No more funding for Hamas, Houthis, or Hezbollah.

50 Americans killed and 12 kidnapped on 07OCT by Iran's proxy group Hamas. Biden had all the justification he needed to put those targets on the table and end this then, but he lacked the will.

SBminisguy13 Apr 2024 7:09 p.m. PST

@ Inch High Guy -- while you're at it, might as well do a Regime Strike. Attack all the Revolutionary Guard units and Barracks you can find which removes their "SS" units from populace control. Attack all the "Basiji" and secret police buildings you can find to remove their "Gestapo" units from populace control. And strike their Parliament and all the "Supreme Leader" compounds you can find.

saying "Don't" to Iran.

Based on the recent past the US leaders will do little to Iran. Albeit Israel, Jordan and the US as we know shot down many of Iran's drones, etc. The US top elected and appointed officials still think they can talk to Iran's leaders. The term "a fool's errand" comes to mind.

Iran, and all our other enemies, knows the US leaders are risk adverse and fears escalation [need to put that on a T-shirt]. So, they can do what they want with little concern of the US doing anything effective.

However, Iran attacked Israel, that is an act of war. So, at this time Israel is at war with Iran. And vis versa … We will have to depend on the Israel to do the real damage required. Most likely their air force will make a number of very effective strikes on Iran.

If the US top leaders don't want to play hardball. They can take their bat and go home.

But it is an election year, maybe our leaders may find a pair of ⚾⚾. It could get them some votes … yes?

Now that it has been demonstrated that Western airpower can defend Israel, will that put more pressure on NATO to protect Ukraine from Russian missiles and drones?

Actually it will be interesting how this plays out. Obviously Iran was face saving. They even warned all involved. No casualties to my knowledge. So how Israel handles this will be interesting. The administration is telling them not to respond. Of course the POTUS told Iran "DON'T", that obviously didn't work.

If Israel was really using this as an excuse to hit Iran and intend to make an impression, my bet the first target would be Nuke development areas.

When it comes to how Israel handles this, I make no bets. To me they have their hands full with Gaza and proxies. I still look for them to finish Gaza off.

This could signify that Israel isn't planning anything in the near future.

Much as when Trump did nothing after Iran hit US bases causing over 100 casualties following Solemani, Netanyahu will probably do little as both sides benefit from essentially a proxy war without having to engage in a direct conflict. Iran saves face for their internal populace and Israel essentially shows Iranian impotence while not having to open a third front while dealing with Hamas/Gaza and Hezbollah on the Lebanese and Syrian border.

The war in the Mid-East just got hotter. The strike on IRCG GENs, etc. were killed in that Israeli AF attack a couple of weeks before in Damacus. As payback for Hamas, etc. attacks on the 07 Oct slaughter of Israelis.

Yesterday 99% of all drones & missiles launched by Iran, Hezbollah, Shia militias in Iraq and the Houthis were intercepted. By Israeli, the US, and Jordanian air assets. Reports say the UK & France were involved too. 300 drones and missiles were fired at Israel. Only 1% made it thru …

US leadership just said the US will not participate in offensive ops against Iran … If this happens probably the UK & France won't be involved either. Once again, the US top leaders still think they can talk to the Ayatollahs in Iran. The US has given millions to them, which they used to fund their war on Israel.

All this has shown IMO that the academics intellectuals in US Gov't who never were in the Military continue to make very bad decisions. E.g. they planned and told the US Military to execute those ops leading to the debacle of the Afghanistan withdrawal. They didn't listen to the Military …

These academics again proved to make more very poor choices Along with the others in the current leadership. A former US Intel Officer has said about the current top leadership has not been right about a foreign policy issue in 50 years. Nothing has gotten better with age … only worse.

And costing the US lives. One US Army Ret. GEN recently said in an interview, some of appointed leaders are the worst the US has ever had. I and many others agree. These types need to be back in the classroom. They are not very capable in my and others' opinions.

As long as Iran can get away with their attacks, supporting terrorists, etc. they will continue. They have to be Bleeped text slapped hard. By hitting many military targets in Iran's territory. Seems only the Israeli AF will do this. The Israelis will do a lot of damage to Iran. The damage the US leaders won't let the US Military do.

It is an election year and votes are the coin of the realm of course. The current leaders in charge will do anything to get votes to stay in power. As opposed to making better geopolitical decisions … But that is SOP now and in some cases many times before. That is and has been going on for a long time in many situations. old fart

As the smoke clears it appears this is a major failure, and consequently a major blow to Iran's standing with the ruination of the perception of Iran's military might, patiently built over the years. And a renewed perception of the mullahs' regime's unpredictability, and the threat its policies are to the region's moderate regimes. A lot will depend on the way Israel & the West will manage their success, but for all intent, I see a renewed cooperation in order to prevent Iran from brewing more trouble in teh Middle East.

"Biden warns Netanyahu US will NOT support Israel's counterattack on Iran amid fears of all-out war: President tells PM in late-night call 'you got a win, take the win' after IDF shot down 'nearly all' incoming drones and missiles"

🤔 He told Iran "Don't" but they did. So who tells Iran to now play nice and holds them accountable. Will Iran now stop their surrogates? Somehow, I doubt it.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP14 Apr 2024 4:21 p.m. PST

This was a failure for Iran. They can tell their people anything they want. Iran's Rep at the UN said the official word from the Ayatollah, etc., they consider this is attack on Israel was over.

Do they mean they won't attack again ?

Are they lying ? We know you can't trust them …

Or are they afraid of the US, and their allies will play hardball ? And Iran will be a world of hurt.

I'm pretty sure the Israelis will be playing hardball when attacking Iran. Iran … you better wear a cup … maybe 2?

A US expert(?) said in an interview on FOX. That Iran will not make any more strikes. It appears they were going for vengeance/payback for the Israeli strike in Damascus that killed some of their top Ouds Force GENs and other officers.

Now when will it be the Israeli's turn for payback ? I'm sure it won't be small pin pricks like the US has done before …

The WH said the US will not help Israel attacking Iran. Well again it is an election year …

Will Iran prove to be a paper tiger, like Russia ?

And we can't forget the IDF is not finished with Hamas either… yet …

SBminisguy14 Apr 2024 9:47 p.m. PST

So…according to several articles, the US was informed via Turkey as an intermediary, of Iran's general intent to attack Israel and the US said -- OK, just don't go over board…

Iran informed Turkey in advance of its operation against Israel – Turkish source

Earlier this week, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to Fidan to make clear that escalation in the Middle East was not in anyone's interest.

"Iran informed us in advance of what would happen. Possible developments also came up during the meeting with Blinken, and they (the US) conveyed to Iran through us that this reaction must be within certain limits," the source said.

Always makes me shake my head when I hear of groups in the US chanting "Death to America." Hmmm, you do realize you live here. If we die then you die. Or, if you hate America that much, why did you come here in the first place? It is just a stupid thing to chant while LIVING in the US.

But safe, right? I mean, they know there's no dangerous consequences because in America we support freedom of speech. So they can act out without much fear of repercussions and vent their life anxiety into their cause, be bullies and feel special all at the same time.

Well add those hundreds to the hundreds in Dearborn. Add those to the ones on College campuses and in the streets since Hamas massacred the Israelis. Those hundreds start to mount up. How many of them are legally here? Those not, could be easily deported. How many are here after claiming persecution or seeking sanctuary, from a country and people they are now calling for "the death of"? Again deportations are an easy option.

These people aren't even smart enough to use "Death to the United States". By using America, they include North, South and Central America and all protectorates as well.

I've written elsewhere in TMP why I don't believe calling for "the death of America!", falls under the 1st amendment right. Try shouting "death to the President" and see where that gets you. Try yelling "fire" in a theater. They are calling for the death of our government, our culture and our people as a whole. You cannot be more violent and evil than that.

We fought our own countrymen when they wanted the death of the Union. This is much worse.

If you believe "words have meaning", these 3 words are among the worst.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2024 9:11 a.m. PST

We're looking at hundreds of highly defective people out of population of hundreds of millions.
A very small vocal minority of morons. Probably well-funded as well …

Seems many of these people who came to America have not assimilated to being an American. Like so many other ethnicities have. One can still and should celebrate and keep their ethnic and cultural, traditions, etc.

Like many ethnicities still do. E.g. Italians, Latinos, Eastern Euros, Irish, etc. But it seems some of these new waves of immigrates, do not want to do that ? They just come here legally to take advantage of many of the good things the USA has to offer. But yet not embracing being an American.

Of course, if they come here illegally … well we see how well that turned out … And continues to be ignored by top US leaders.

And in the media today more pro-Palestinian[pro-Hamas] well as has some chanting, "Hands off Iran", etc. protests were going on. IIRC a report said some blocked the Golden Gate Bridge(?).

As I have said if a bunch of other groups chanted "Death to Palestine", "Death to Iran", "Death to the Houthis", "Death to …", well you get the idea. Would those protesters be allowed to continue and not be arrested ? But if you threaten lives, in this case other Americans, while you're protesting … is not that illegal ? Or at least questionable ?

Somethings interesting intel I heard in the news today.

Many of the missiles fired by Iran did not get too far. I heard a 50% failure rate ?

Many of these weapons sold to Iran were Chinese made. So, I guess the old story about "Made in China". Still holds some truth … it's junk …

SBminisguy15 Apr 2024 10:15 a.m. PST

Am I the only one here who thinks this is a bigger deal than Iranian missile accuracy? That the US approved of Iran's attack on a US ally in advance??

SB, I'm sure it upsets many. We know the POTUS cut his normal weekend vacation short to come back early from Rehoboth Beach. So they knew.

The problem, what can we do currently about it? The House could impeach him, but the Senate would just ignore it. The House could cut his budget, but there are too many deep staters who will never do that. Besides, he has ignored the ruling of the Supreme Court and is forgiving student loans, even though the court ruled he could not and sense the forgiveness has to do with money, it should be the purview of the house. So short of voting him out of office, I'm at a loss at what one can do, but be upset. I've tried writing and calling Senators and Congressmen. But one of my Senators is a Democrat and my house member is a deep stater. Neither care.

So yes I'm upset, but I'm upset about the high prices for my groceries, my gas and my utilities. I'm horribly upset about the open border. I'm upset about DEI taking over our military and schools. I'm upset about the total instability that has taken over foreign affairs since 2020 (wars in multiple areas). I'm upset about the almost 35 trillion dollar debt and the waste of money that at least could slow it down. The emptying of our strategic reserve. I could go on, but again, what can we do, short of November?

So you are not alone, lots of others out there just as upset and frustrated.

SBminisguy15 Apr 2024 1:36 p.m. PST

I hear ya!

Nine pound round15 Apr 2024 5:39 p.m. PST

There's an element of Kabuki-meets-Monty-Python about the whole thing, particularly the perfunctory warning not to do it. So if I understand this correctly, the Iranians telegraphed intent, the US telegraphed disapproval, but there were adequate forces on hand to rend the attack almost harmless, and we all but promised not to retaliate. Chi bono?

It's a weird sequence of events.

Personal logo Legion 4 Supporting Member of TMP15 Apr 2024 8:36 p.m. PST

Ret. GEN Kean on FOX today said the money given to Iran was used to fund their terrorists, missiles, drones, etc.. I don't doubt it …

WH Spokesman a former USN ADM. Said before that no … none of that money went to fund terrorism, missiles, drones, etc.

My $ is on the GEN …

Iran's attack on Israel with 300 weapons systems was a failure … But what if they use nukes the next time? Again $ that came from the top US leaders.

Obama tried this, to be nice to Iran and they will become a friendly nation to everybody. We again have this failed dogma in effect today … What does the WH not get ?

The question of Israeli response to Iran's attack is still unknown. But they know they can't ignore it. Since Iran fired 300 pieces of ordinance at Israel … Israeli should do similar if not more.

One member of Congress said everyone who is not an American and chanting "Death to the USA", etc. should be deported. As I always say, they should be sent to Gitmo.

US citizens who chant this sort of thing … could be charged with treason. What these mobs are doing in not peaceful protesting and freedom of speech.

Many of those chanting, waving Palestinian, Iranian etc. flags were arrested today in a number of US cities. But I'm sure they are already back on the streets.

Nine pound round16 Apr 2024 4:34 a.m. PST

The NY Post is suggesting that the Israelis are going to hit back, but of course no details about how or when. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the Sunni Arab states are quietly encouraging them.
