I've been sculpting for some time now and mostly followed an instructional film. After every step – in order to save time – I put the sculpts in the oven (50°C) for maybe 10 minutes. But it seems when I do that, features become less crisp. Mainly I notice this with folds which are sometimes almost gone after the sculpt comes out of the oven. Am I doing something wrong. Should I put them in the oven at all, or should I just be patient?

I'm a veteran putty sculptor. I cure my greens in a metal coffee/paint can with a 40 watt incandescent light bulb attached to the top. This gets hot enough to cure the putty. Also, let the putty cure up a little on its own--do not put into the curing oven immediately after applying.

Here are two resources:

I'd just be patient. ;-)
I tend to sculpt on more than one mini at a time, so when I finish something on one, I set it aside and start on the next one. Any leftover putty gets sculpted onto a 'bonus' figure (so that it doesn't go to waste…)
The most important sculpting tip is: Once you have something just how you want it, leave it alone! (until it cures.)

I guess I will just be more patient. Thanks for the advice and the video links. Helpful stuff :-)

Blimey that looks complicated.
My Masters just sit on a pin vice stand under a 100w bulb. Cures Milliput in 10 mins.
