Which scale of figures do you prefer when gaming the English Civil War?

15mm

For smaller battles definitely 28mm. For bigger battles, my available table size means 15mm work best.

Very much a matter of battle size. 2mm or 6mm for Marston Moor or Naseby, but forage in 28mm.

15s for pitched battles. But for ECW themed skirmish games, 25/28s or whatever scale Bloody Miniatures are.

I do Thirty Year's war in 10mm. If I were to do ECW I would also do it in 10mm.

A year ago, my buddies and I bought into Warlords Epic Pike and Shot. They are somewhere between 10 and 15mm (IIRC 13mm) but painting goes fast as they come in strips. Contrast paints work well. This is a period where the massed look works well.

I've re-worked some old 2mm armies for 'For King & Parliament' and that is my only ECW army.

Mollinary12 Apr 2024 12:23 p.m. PST

10/12mm, which covers Pendraken, AIm/Minifigs and some Old Glory.

Little Red12 Apr 2024 1:36 p.m. PST

25/28mm

Been doing ECW in 15mm for 20+ years.

It is a pretty peripheral period for me, so my mass of generic 2mm Pike and Shot stuff works fine. If I cared more I'd probably do 15mm or 20mm.

Frostie13 Apr 2024 2:42 a.m. PST

10mm with big single based regiments

No prizes for guessing that here at Château KeepYourPowderDry the one true 'scale'* is 15mm, of the true 15 variety.

As for Epic I think I have fairly conclusively shown that as the ranges have come out Epic P&S has evolved into 'true 15mm'.

* Yes I know it isn't a scale, it is a 'size'
