You were asked – TMP link

What wargames or miniature rules are still good after all these years? I'm thinking pre-1985 (40+ years old).

And in the final round of voting:

14% of the votes: "Risk!"
14%: "Chess"
13%: "The Sword and the Flame"
9%: "Dungeons & Dragons"
9% [TIE]: "Diplomacy" OR "Squad Leader"

I like Risk and TSATF. Diplomacy was ok.
My first Board game in the 196s was Stratego. It has held the test of time.

Stratego! That is one of my favorite games. Have played it many times.

Seems only one historical miniature wargaming rules set made the top tier: the same as bought half of creation for the Widow at Windsor:

The Sword And The Flame

Three cheers to Larry Brom and all the great memories his rules have brought us these past 45 years, and no doubt will continue to bring!

The Sword And The Flame Perhaps its a US game. Not one I have heard of actually played in the UK. Perhaps I move in different circles.

Risk, and Chess YES but to have missed DBA seems to make the list somewhat unrealistic at least for the UK standpoint. There are still well attended DBA tournaments at many UK shows.
