I have once more fallen into the pit of finding new homes for old 30mm Napoleonics, and I need all the help I can get. I know of ITGM and Tricolor. Can anyone suggest other rules whose basing is compatible with "Column, Line and Square?"

For those under 50, that means roughly one figure for 20 historical soldiers, so that, say, A French-style battalion would have between 24 and 48 figures divided into a grenadier, a voltigeur and four fusilier companies, while a British battalion would have 10 companies--grenadier, light and eight "center."

Yes, General de Brigade is 1 to 20 figures, but I play 1806-1807 so I could go with the older company setup but I use the 6-company setup for French, so my battalions are of 36 figures. Even though Davout's 3rd Corp in 1806 had some battalions close to 1,000 men.

Thank you, von Blucher!

Since you already know of ITGM I don't have much to add. Recently played a game of ITGM with over 3000 figs a side.

1805 would certainly work.

Sam Mustafa's "LaSalle" would be worth a look.

Napoleon at War uses 24 man battalions.

Republic to Empire also uses a 1:20 figure ratio

Arty Conliffe's Shako would work too, as the basing is 100 men per stand, so 25:1 if you are based in groups of 4.

Soldiers of Napoleon also uses 100 men per stand.

EC, I failed to make myself clear. CLS, GdB and ITGM reflect the internal organization of Napoleonic battalions, not standard size bases. So the important thing about a French battalion post-1807 would be the six companies, not that a weak battalion might use four-man bases. Prussians and Russians would have four companies--Russians to include an elite company and Prussians to have a separate fusilier battalion instead. Austrians would have six companies, frequently larger than their French counterparts, with grenadiers in separate battalions of four or six companies.

So Shako, Lasalle and Soldiers of Napoleon are out, but Republic to Empire looks promising. I can't find any reference to 1805, and I don't want to mislead anyone. Can you point me toward anything on it?

Many UK rulesets from the 1970s used a 1:20 figure:man scale, or something very similar, with historical division of battalions into sub-units. Some examples:
. Napoleonic Warfare, Newbury Rules
. To The Sound Of Guns, Richard Butler
. 1750-1850, Wargames Research Group
. Voltigeur, Dave Millward
There will be many others.

No idea where to get a copy, pretty sure I bought mine at a con.

Does it matter? Can you not just go with a frontage of 'x' equals 1 unit?

I use 10mm in many periods, and often ignore where the rules say "if using 10mm, halve base sizes" – I keep the 25mm base, just with many more figures on.

I've done this in ECW. Regiment of foot has 4 15mm on a base, I get 10 to 15, depending on whether musket or pike.

System 7 Napoleonics by GDW.

It's designed for using counters, but I have played it with 6mm figures as written. You will have to expand measurements for 30mm – maybe just replace cm with inches.

System 7 is apparently based on Fire and Steel, but I have not seen or played that one.
