I had the Zvesda Gunners all headless and left over after doing a Netherlands HA battery. So head swap with Grenadiers and much greenstuff left me with 14 pdrs and what looks like a 4pdr plus a small howitzer (both spares from the junk box). Two guns and crews are Hagen. The photos are awful I know. saturation is gross overdone. The blue is much darker and the red is less garish, plus the figures are true Vallejo matt. The perils of the camera

Well I guess at 16 guns it is nearly two batteries, but one is a howitzer (did 12 pdr batteries have them?) and one is a small maybe 4pdr gun. The Hagen metals are all you would expect, but they are very big lads, even though their guns are the same size as the Zvezda ones. |

12lb batteries could have howitzers attached but you'll see many instances where they aren't, but that's looking at a Corp's 12lb battery. They could be in from the Army's artillery reserve or from the Old Guard foot artillery units though. |

Excellent. A good excuse to include one or two then! Thanks |

I found my Age of Napoleon Army Guides for the Imperial Guard and it shows that the Old Guard artillery at Waterloo had 6 companies a Pied with 48 guns and 4 companies a cheval with 24 guns and 1 young Gard company with 8 guns. Based on this it looks like an Old Guard Foot company had 6 – 12lb Cannons and 2 long barreled Howitzers. Not sure what the young Guard Company had though as normally they would have had 8lb cannons. |

I think only 6lb cannons, not 8lb by the time of Waterloo. Personally I cannot tell the difference at 1/72 scale! But 6 12 lb and two howitzers is just what I wanted, so thanks again. Couple more photos looking far better. Artificial and dim light at night and the result is much better than daylight!. Weird

Another outstanding contribution from Deadhead. We already have two batteries of Old Guard Foot Artillery so this is a much needed addition. |

All they need now is 16 limbers and at least 16 caissons (plus 6 minimum horses for each and three drivers apiece) the "footprint" of artillery was incredible in those days. |

Very nice work indeed as always Mr D. May I respectfully suggest you might like to trim the mould lines off your cannon barrels. Personally, I think a bit of your surgical gore might be appropriate on those lovely casualty conversions. The finished unit will be as impressive as those that preceded it. You are right about the footprint. A full unit with supply wagons forges etc was indeed massive.. Best wishes, Chris |

The cannon barrels are a disappointment indeed and I should have tidied up the muzzles more also. Glaring obvious once painted and of course now they are all bubble wrapped and packed to go. 110% right though. I rushed through the guns. I did add brackets to the split trail, in order to hold tools, to some. But was too keen to get started on extensive conversion work of the figures and missed the obvious. I never even thought of adding blood and guts to the casualties. By definition, again obvious. I will bet James will see to a bit of the red stuff |

Hi. Unfortunately the camera is merciless and many a proud finished product of mine has been seen to be wanting after its attentions. Adkin states that the ‘ Beautiful daughters' were six 12pdr and 2 6pdr howitzers. I have lots of Austrian cavalry howitzer barrels spare if you want some for that purpose. I am packing a box for a James as we speak. Would they be useful? Best wishes, Chris |

Oh definitely. Please do send a couple on to James. They will add much authenticity here. Thanks for the thought. My boxes are now all packed, cushioned, bubble wrapped, shredded paper. Nothing can go wrong now…nothing….. |
