Decades after their service on a top-secret World War II project, U.S. soldiers who deceived the Nazis as part of the "Ghost Army" were honored during a Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. Justin Kunz, a BYU associate professor of illustration, was selected by the U.S. Mint to design the Ghost Army Medal.

One of my neighbors has a huge collection of most of the uniform patches they used. Unfortunately, it was damaged by flooding (mostly the handwritten notes that were with them…)

That's a common misconception. I assume you mean he had the 'phantom patches' used in Operation Fortitude'. The Ghost Army never used those. They used 'real 'patches of real units to simulate looking like them. Except for one time when they could not get the actual patches due to army screw ups, so hand painted some.
