I have been trying to find out what British units were already in South Africa just before the outbreak of hostilities in 1899. Before any reinforcements arrived. Most sources agree it was 10K to 14K troops but I want to know what foot and horse units were already present. You would think this would be easy to find out but I have had no luck. |

This site (British battles) usually has a list of units present at each battle. britishbattles.com May be possible to check out some of the early battles and get an idea? |

Be careful. I am not sure how correct their oobs are. I know that the Afghan War retreat from Kabul isn't correct, don't know about the others. |
