Could anyone here have any suggestions as to a good movie or series concerning the
AWI?

Thank you

There is that one done by FOX news. Patriots and something. Can't remember the title as I have just watched bits and pieces.

The Crossing starring Jeff Daniels as George Washington. Great film. I won't say the battle scenes are accurate (too few men), but the script and acting are fantastic, and the story and theme are important.

Benedict Arnold: A Question of Honor with Aidan Quinn as Arnold and Kelsey Grammer as Washington. Makes the title character somewhat sympathetic, though his treason is still "black as Hell." Not really about any battles, other than metaphorical ones in Arnold's soul. He loses.

Really, the US needs more AWI films— the slate is far too few, especially of ones worth watching. Which is remarkable, considering the history, the relative ease of recreating the battles (numbers involved in any given battle were not all that large), and the remarkable characters and situations involved. Bunker/Breeds Hill, Arnold and Ethan Allen capturing Ticonderoga, Knox transporting the cannon to Boston, the Saratoga campaign, Greene's campaign in the South, all the deeds of Daniel Morgan, and George Washington's superhuman ability to keep his army together in the face of incredible hardship— and of course the battles themselves, the uniforms, the cannons— how could you get a better visual pageantry? And on top of that the themes of liberty and democracy and sacrifice for the greater good? Tailor made for the right film-maker.

Revolution and The Patriot are both AWI films, just not Hollywood's finest films!

While we're on the subject, there was, Liberty, "The American Revolutionary War" on PBS, "The Revolutionary War" on A&E, "The American Revolution" on History Channel, and "The Revolution." On History Channel. All of those are on DVD's, and the last is now on Blu-Ray I believe.

Do not forget to check out media items about the French and Spanish contributions to the AWI.

The Devil's Disciple is a favourite, good fun, not really history or much fighting but…. Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas vs Laurence Olivier, what's not to like.

lol, that was the play during bi-centennial 1976, I played a British soldier and we changed the set to the Grenadier March. Still have photos. Lol.

"The American Revolution with Charles Kuralt". – Very Good

YouTube link

"John Adams" – Very Good

"The Crossing" – Not the best, but okay. It hasn't aged well since it was first shown.

"Liberty" – Don't waste your time.

"Turn"- Don't waste your time. It is awful.

Plenty of other videos on YouTube. Kings and Generals channel has started doing videos on the AWI which are informative. There are just not that many films on the war. I hate to say it, but the best is "Revolution" but it is at times grating on the nerves.

Ok, I have a series of very good videos in which the action and characters are conducted by re-e actors. I have one on a battle in the South. I will have to look for it. Maybe five copies left.
Most are ACW themes using re-enactors.

The best is a video on Steuben's training at Valley Forge but it covers other aspects as well. Life in camp, marching and firing orders, etc. the best in my opinion of the lot. I have plenty of copies.

Russ send an email or Facebook my name if interested in the new videos.I got them as part of a store buyout. Being light, shipping is easy.

Russ, if you Google American Revolution movies. All of the will come up in a list. Any Historic subject really. I am about to embark on The Mexican Revolution, ( expect a big order in July), I used them in the past for inspiration as to painting.
