The American Battlefield Trust has named its 11 finalists for its first ever book prize in American military history.

How many of these have you read? I confess that my total is a big fat zero! But there are several that interest me.

I haven't read any of these, either. The thing is that I have read enough in the past that I understand why these topics are important and how they fit in.

Over the past 20 or so years, I've watched as writers and the folks who sell history go well beyond "puffing" their product. Thus, we get books like "Furstentum: How the Principality of Liechtenstein Undermined the Nazi State and Allowed the Allies to Win World War II" (don't bother trying to order this, I just invented it). These books don't sound like they are suffering from this sort of over run of claims.

I recently finished reading all the Will and Ariel Durant books; I'm thinking some of these next.

It seems I'm not the only one around who donates to ABT.

WOAH. Careful with the link. The first time I clicked on it I got one of those scam, "You're computer has been seized" things that force you to exit out of Chrome completely.

The second time I clicked on it was ok.

Just something to watch out for.

Zero for me as well. I like to read, but there is no way that I can read all of the books that are of interest to me. Out of the books listed, 3,1, and 2 would be at the top of the reading stack for me.

I just started resding no. 7 this weekend, very good so far. Have not heard of the others but will try to pick up no. 4 on FT Ticonderoga.

I have so many books in my library that I haven't read, that I need to concentrate on those. I have been making an effort but it is slow going. My shelves are overflowing.

Only read No.1 . Very interesting…..never knew there were Hessians garrisoning Pensacola and that they fought the Spanish.
