Have not seen this posted and thought it was odd. AB will be releasing US paras shortly. I am super excited over this news as they are my favorite figures!

They are great figures and only what we would expect from AB. His 18mm Napoleonic figures are more detailed and better proportioned than most 28mm metal figures.

The field dressing on the helmet is very iconic and seen on many a model or re-enactor. Was it seen before the 17th Airborne drop in Operation Varsity? I always associate it with the Rhine crossing somehow. As a recognition aid I recall?

I have read recently it may only have been a 101 thing (at Markey Garden)

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP15 Mar 2024 11:28 p.m. PST

You are right 101 seemed to have introduced it in small numbers for Holland. 17th it was universal for the Rhine crossing

Actually some members of the 82nd apparently wore the med kit on the helmet as well. Also, apparently, a very few were worn on the helmet as early as D-day though I am still trying to confirm that.

Some info on the kit:

I thought US Airborne uniform was more brown drab

LeonAdler Sponsoring Member of TMP24 Mar 2024 1:00 a.m. PST

42flanker,
Two uniform variations, early 'tan style' for Sicily
and D-Day and the 'olive brown' variatey for MG and beyond.

Why wait, Simon's Soldiers has had them for ages and just as good as well as cheaper and the exchange rate makes them in the US and UK favour, and he ships everything International express, got my order in the US in only 8 days from placing the order

PeterH29 Mar 2024 5:13 p.m. PST

its obviously in the eye of the beholder Blacky – not a big fan of Simon's Soldiers

Blacky75030 Mar 2024 9:54 p.m. PST

Why? Or are you really just Piers Brand in disguise?

Have you even ever bought any to know? There's no scale creep like AB's latest stuff, and like I said, service was the best I've ever had from any dealer and they gave a discount coupon for future orders, never been offered that by Eureka in Australia or the US

MacColla31 Mar 2024 7:56 a.m. PST

Ignoring figure style, which is after all a matter of personal taste, Simon's Soldiers are more than three times the cost of AB for a UK buyer due to shipping costs.

friendly neighbourhood nerd01 Apr 2024 1:32 a.m. PST

You could also buy Simon's Soldiers from Asymmetric Wargames in Italy – I'm assuming you'd still have to pay import charges, but less shipping (and it should get there faster).

Anyways, these new AB US Paras do look really nice in my opinion.

MacColla

They have a UK agent so why would you go direct?

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP01 Apr 2024 3:41 p.m. PST

I have asked this elsewhere of Blacky750 but I am baffled. You got your order in the US within 8 days, but your profile places you in NSW Australia. You are clearly a great fan of Simonssoldiers, also based there, and I will agree they look a great product.

Reassure me that Simon Ford is not the Simon of Simonssoldiers and, if I am expressing that concern with no basis, then please excuse that.

While I could still edit

Oh dear. Just found a TMP link;

TMP link

See your message of 20th March 2022, suggesting you are indeed that Simon. I do look forward to hearing a response now. Anything else would be appalling.

Blacky75002 Apr 2024 5:16 p.m. PST

Why would it be appalling, besides people move for work or family reasons

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP02 Apr 2024 11:50 p.m. PST

Forgive me, but, it matters little where you are, more who you are.

I could not understand how, if living in the USA, you were getting stuff through customs from Oz so readily. Then I saw that you are actually recorded as living in Australia, where Simonssoldiers operates. Seeing your first name was indeed Simon, then set me wondering even more and I did a search of your postings. That led me to the link above, showing that you are indeed the proprietor.

How can you honestly state then;

"he ships everything International express, got my order in the US in only 8 days from placing the order"

"service was the best I've ever had from any dealer and they gave a discount coupon for future orders,"?

We do see this kind of thing in hotel reviews on-line, but it is simply not right and that could be expressed in stronger terms.

I cannot see the point anyway, as you seem to have a perfectly good product. Why not just honestly and openly advertise as such?

Blacky75003 Apr 2024 5:13 a.m. PST

Yes it is me and I'm happy to provide you with all the shipping information if you don't believe me

I use international express as during Covid it was the only mail leaving Australia, my customers appreciated it so I've stuck with it even when most times it's coming out of my own pocket to make up the difference but that's part of the customer service I offer

Have you ever purchased any of my figures?

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP03 Apr 2024 11:26 a.m. PST

I cannot seem to get you to understand that I can imagine you provide a great service and an excellent product.

They look high quality from what I see on line, but WWII is not my current obsession. Do some Free French tank crews and that would draw me in mind you.

All I am asking is that you stop posting messages claiming to be from satisfied US customers, which are totally fake. That is is my complaint, not where you live, whether Oz or USA, not whether your mailing is reliable, but whether you are creating fraudulent messages praising your product.

I will bet you are not alone here, on this or any site, but why do it? Let the figures speak for themselves. They seem great. Do not criticise competitors under an alias. Anything else is shameful.

Liam

You've won, congrats, I'll be closing down after June 30, the end of our financial year

Well done, I hope you're happy

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP09 Apr 2024 8:35 a.m. PST

I cannot understand any of this. I said more than once that you had a nice product. All I asked (and I think I did it politely) was that you stop posting what were basically fake reviews. Why you should then shut up shop is beyond me and is a loss to the hobby I think.

I genuinely wish you well and it may be that taking some time out is for the best for you.

Blacky75009 Apr 2024 11:26 a.m. PST

Look around the hobby, many smaller traders are choosing to close as sales are taking a huge hit because of the current economic conditions, it's hard to justify to domestic command the costs of moulds and masters when sales are next to nonexistent and post offices around the world are making the cost of shipping prohibitive for small orders.

I doubt your last comment, you just wanted to cause trouble and as a result you have hastened the inevitable through your comments, you obviously have no idea of the costs of running a small business

Personal logo deadhead Supporting Member of TMP09 Apr 2024 12:54 p.m. PST

Well I guess we are way off topic now and it is best to leave it at that, but my wishes were genuine.
