Any prehistoric African figures available.

How prehistoric? As in not modern humans? Or as in just stone age?

I took a bunch of plastic figure sets to make early homo-sapiens, in 1/72nd scale. I used mostly American Indian sets from Imex and also some ancient German sets from, I think, Hat and maybe a few others here and there.

It seems to me if that is what you need, stone age humans, get a variety of colonial era African Native figures and cull those with guns, and maybe do a few head swaps or trim off some of the shields or clothing that might make them seem too modern. Then paint them up with edged weapons being in stone colors rather than metal.

Some of the Atlantic American Indian sets might work for you too depending on how "prehistoric" you want them to be.

Maybe scan Plastic Soldier Review to get some ideas on poses and equipment.

Good luck.

Copplestone Castings do 28mm Dinka which are basically naked Africans with a club or open handed to take a wire spear with separate shields should be good for Prehistory as is or be easily convertible if you want to add some skins and furs.

Not to sound overly simplistic, but couldn't just about any African colonial period figures work as long as that had native clothing (animal skins -feathers) and weapons?

Isn't there an Osprey book for pre-historic tribes yet?

For early hominids there are two choices in 15mm Khurasan Wildmen of the savannah.

Rebel Miniatures have have/had a set of "monkey boys" in their pulp range.
For later more human specimens HLBS at one point made H erectus figures n 28mm. For late Paleolithic to Neolithic use colonial Africans in tribal dress with weapons iron weapons replace for stone tipped types, though wooden clubs and bows are fine as is. Also ancient Nubians and Libyans might be an option.

Using the tribal warfare cave drawings found in the Sahara, making castings ea sy.
The factions are wearing heavy cloaks with hoods that offered protection from arrows, javelins and club swings.
On the drawings one side had stripes on their cloaks.
