Around five years ago, I ran G1 using 2.75D modeling for the Steading, with 30+ Hill Giant models, and other Giant models, along with 20+ wolves, at the kennel end. It was a blast from my past, as I DM'd the whole GDQ series back in the early 1980's, using Theater of the Mind. The Steading proved to be rather easy for the players: the Giants are mostly drunk, partying, in the Great Hall. I ran it for experienced groups of players, using 1e AD&D rules. They set up outside the exits near the kitchen, with another group sneaking into the Great Hall, from the long dark hallway, facing the high table of the Chieftain. That bonfire does not throw light very far, so they got close, before unleashing Fireball spells, Lightning Bolt spells, and a hail of arrows on the drunken Giants. After that, a Morale Check, for the Giants, was failed, miserably, and it was every Giant for themselves, running for the nearest exit!
Gearing up to run G2, with full 3D modular ice cavern models, along with: 30+ Frost Giants models; Winter Wolf models; Yeti figures; and other sundry creatures found within the module. This will be far different from the Steading -- the Frosties are sober, well organized, and they will respond with coordinated efforts, against intruders. I hope they don't fall into the chasm, where the Remorhaz lives… I have a model painted, and table-ready to incinerate anyone it can swallow. Cheers!
