You were asked – TMP link

You dove into a new period, bought the rules, bought the figures… but it all came to nothing. What are the primary reasons that wargaming projects fail?

And in the final round of voting:

24% [TIE] said "life gets in the way" OR "failure to maintain focus"

15% said "having too many other interests"

Let's not forget about others losing interest if it is a group project.

"Failure to maintain focus" has always been present in the hobby for as long as I can remember. The issue today is that now there are new releases coming out pretty much every day! The odds that a gamer will get distracted by something else other than the project they are currently working on is probably the highest it's ever been. Our gaming group has not been able to pull together a project for at least a decade now. Either you provide both sides for a new set of rules/period or its not going to happen at all.

I expect to collect both sides – even if it's a group project.

I stay focused by limiting my reading and my movie watching to the wargame subject I am working on.

I agree with advocate about doing both sides. When I put on a game, I don't want to have to worry about one guy with something we need not being able to show up. Or worse yet, moving out of town.

Major Dundee – Just prime them and play, you can paint while you play. A WIN WIN situation.

In my case, I think the major factor was trying to be too ambitious, rather than setting easily achievable targets that would have encouraged me to persevere.
